How to Install a Starlink Wall Mount

To install a Starlink wall mount, attach a J-pipe or angle bracket to a wall stud using stainless lag screws, sealing every screw with polyurethane caulk. Mount high on a gable end or second-story wall so the dish clears the roof peak.

Where to Place the Wall Mount

Highest point of a gable end or second-story wall. The dish head must clear your roof ridge by at least 12'' — otherwise your own roof will obstruct signal to the north.

Tools & Hardware

Stainless 5/16'' x 3'' lag screws (2–4), stud finder, drill with 1/4'' pilot bit, socket wrench, polyurethane sealant (NP1 or Geocel), Starlink J-pipe or third-party wall bracket rated for 15+ lbs.

Installation Steps

1. Locate a wall stud with the stud finder. 2. Hold the bracket in position, mark screw holes. 3. Drill pilot holes into the stud. 4. Fill pilots with sealant. 5. Drive lag screws through bracket into stud until snug. 6. Wipe excess sealant and smooth around bracket. 7. Attach dish, run cable down along siding using clips, seal wall pass-through.

Cable Management on Siding

Use UV-rated cable clips every 18''. On vinyl siding, use J-hooks that clip under lap edges — no siding penetration. Route cable to a discreet entry point (basement rim joist is ideal).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wall-mount on brick?

Yes — use stainless masonry anchors (Tapcon or sleeve anchors) rated for the bracket weight.

How high above the roof does the dish need to be?

At least 12'', ideally 24'', so the roof itself doesn't obstruct.

Is a wall mount as strong as a pole?

Yes for wind loads up to spec. But watch dish sway on tall brackets — use a stiffer bracket over 3ft extension.

Does wall mounting void my siding warranty?

Usually not, if you seal all penetrations. Check your siding manufacturer's specs.

Can I install this myself?

For a single-story home, yes if you're comfortable on a ladder. Second-story installs are safer for a pro.
