    Starlink Gateway Locations by State

A directory of known Starlink gateway ground stations across the United States, organized by state. Gateways are the terrestrial link between the Starlink satellite constellation and the public internet — their placement affects capacity, latency, and service quality in your region.

    How Starlink Gateways Work

Every Starlink dish communicates with satellites overhead in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Those satellites relay data down to a nearby gateway ground station, which is connected to the terrestrial internet backbone via fiber. With laser inter-satellite links, a packet may hop between several satellites before landing at the closest gateway with available capacity.

For most users, gateway placement is invisible — but during peak hours, or in regions with sparse gateway coverage, it can influence latency and throughput. SpaceX continues to add gateways under FCC authorization to scale the network.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Starlink gateway ground station?

A Starlink gateway is a ground-based facility with large parabolic antennas that connects the Starlink satellite constellation to the terrestrial internet backbone. Every packet a Starlink dish sends is routed up to a satellite and back down through the nearest gateway to reach the wider internet.

How many Starlink gateways are in the United States?

SpaceX has FCC authorization for more than 60 US gateway locations, with active sites in over 20 states. New gateways are added regularly to expand capacity and reduce latency in high-demand regions.

Does gateway proximity affect my Starlink speed?

It can. Users closer to an active gateway typically experience lower latency because signals travel a shorter physical distance. With laser inter-satellite links, this dependence is decreasing, but gateway density still influences peak throughput in a region.

Can I visit or tour a Starlink gateway?

No. Gateway sites are private SpaceX-operated facilities and are not open to the public. Locations are typically fenced compounds in rural areas near fiber backbone routes.
